Military

In 2018, government US defense spending represented 1.8% of GDP. second only to social security. Threats against terrorism and aging equipment and infrastructure will drive CAGR of 5.4% from 2020-2025 [1]. With a fleet of 13,266 military aircraft, 39,253 armed vehicles, and 490 naval vessels, the US military is like a small country within a country. Throughout the sprawling military infrastructure, the network is command centers in the US and throughout the world, naval yards and docks,  military bases, supply chains, fuel storage facilities, air force bases, administration buildings, research centers, and military contractors such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman Corp., and United Technologies, Huntington Ingalls, etc. The military industry is many industries in one with diverse lighting requirements to match.

Globally, the defense industry is on a drive to modernize its lighting system by replacing all incandescent and fluorescent lighting with more efficient LED lighting. It will focus on retrofitting airborne, ground, and naval platforms with a focus on airport lighting [2].

Nemalux luminaires can supply a number of military lighting systems. Due to their unique design, the GS DC and GS AC linear luminaires are one of the few linear luminaires to have the ABS rating. Along with optional hazardous location rating, wide operating temperature, and IP66/67 rating, it is an ideal candidate for naval marine applications in naval shipyards, armored vehicle maintenance pits, and exterior lighting on surface vessels. For retrofitting incandescent and HID lamps, the Nemalux MR is a direct replacement for 75-150W HID. For medium power, Nemalux offers the XR and for high power, the AR for high bay and yard floodlight applications such as airport lighting. The AR is excellent for temporary light towers and has been used extensively in Oil & Gas industry for this. The NL is a direct replacement for fluorescent lamps and the BL a retrofit for vapor-tight fluorescent lamps.  The MR, XR, and NL can be used for lighting hard and soft shelters. The NL and BL are designed with internal wiring for easy daisy-chaining. For temporary applications, the Nemalux LS light stringer is a quick connect system allowing end-users to quickly string together up to 30 LS units with a rugged electrical cord. The LS is perfect for maintenance crews working on vehicles, aircraft, or field equipment. All Nemalux luminaires are available in general or hazardous locations for the application in fuel storage depots, tanker farms, and other hazardous areas.

For larger installations, such as retrofits for entire bases, shipyards, or airports, Nemalux provides complimentary lighting layouts. Nemalux also understands that military applications can be some of the most demanding and specialized in the world, with no off-the-shelf solution. We’ve worked with many clients in the past to meet their unique custom design challenges. That’s why we can provide military projects our custom lighting design service and spectrum engineering. We provide a turnkey contract manufacturing  service from initial design concept to final production.
