Calgary's 2013 "once in 100 years" flood decimated existing lighting fixtures, requiring a fresh approach and lighting subject to temporary or permanent submersion. The waters had almost completely submerged public transit tunnels.
After the flood, the City of Calgary got to work repairing the city-wide damage. Calgary LRT looked towards Nemalux for a lighting solution. With an IP66 rating, the RS Series industrial LED light is approved for wet locations and has a Class I Division 2 rating. The LED fixture has proven to be impact, vibration, and corrosion resistant. The RS has recently been replaced with our newer XR and AR series luminaires.
Industrial LED Performance
At the time, the RS luminaire easily outperformed 400-Watt metal halide and HPS fixtures in brightness while consuming only half the electricity. The temporary or permanent submersion fixture provided a whiter, brighter light and could be daisy-chained to other fixtures.
The field-serviceable RS allows upgrades and maintenance beyond the warranty period.
“Nemalux was the only flood-proof solution. The quality of light is much better than previous and visibility’s great.”Kevin Hooper P.Eng. – Lighting Solutions Inc.
Today, the RS Series now has 2 successor floodlights in the XR Series and AR Series.
The standard AR is a 10,000 – 50,000 lumen floodlight for typical mounting heights of 25′-100′ and is certified for general and marine location use under the following schemes.
- UL 1598, UL 1598A, UL 8750
- CSA C22.2 No. 250.0, CSA C22.2 No. 250.13
- Field Serviceable
The XR is an 8,000 – 20,000 lumen floodlight for typical mounting heights of 8′-25′ and has pressure equalization membranes that allow for humidity control without stressing the electronic.
- Brighter light
- Easy to install
