Road and Rail Transport: Tunnels, Railyards, Service Pits

Railyards must accommodate many separate tracks converging onto the same space. High mast lighting is used to flood these large spaces. High lumen, high bay luminaires such as the Nemalux AR-50 are ideal solutions. Rail and Truck Maintenance Pits
Fleets of diesel trucks, trains, or buses require regular maintenance that is usually performed in a maintenance or service pit, a long narrow, confined space below ground level. This pit provides maintenance crew access to the underside of the vehicle for regular inspection and servicing. Due to the space limitations, rows of low profile, linear luminaires are ideal for illuminating service pits. Dust, grime, oil, moisture, and explosive gases are all present in the maintenance pit environment. The presence of fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, and other combustible materials requires that luminaires have a hazardous locations rating. Subsequently, luminaires must be resistant to all these elements while providing glare-free, uniform illumination.
Nemalux luminaires have IP 66, 67, and 68 ratings for ingress protection against moisture and dust intrusion and are vibration resistant. Most Nemalux luminaires are Class I, Div 2 and Class I, Zone 2 rated. The low profile, linear Nemalux GS-AC is well suited for maintenance pit illumination.
There are different types of tunnels, each requiring different types of lighting. Train tunnels are usually lower in height so require low bay style luminaires around 8 to 10K lumens to avoid glare. On the other hand, vehicle tunnels are usually taller and require a high bay luminaire. Nemalux provides the MR, XR, and AR series of luminaires to solve these tunnel lighting problems. The low bay Nemalux and MR and XR are ideal for train tunnels, but XR is recommended because half as many are required as the MR model. In contrast, the AR high bay is ideal for vehicle tunnels.
